Economics in Action
This workshop is based on the publication Economics in Action: 14 Greatest Hits for Teaching High School Economics, available in Virtual Economics. The philosophy behind the methodology is stated in the following proverb: "I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand." In this workshop, six simulations such as "Why people trade", "Productivity", "The Invention Convention", "The Circular Flow of Economic Activity", "Property rights" and "Money and inflation" will be demonstrated.

Economic Freedom: Charting a Path to Prosperity
Studies reveal that economic freedom correlates with higher economic growth, lower rates of poverty, higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality, less public corruption, improved health care, and political liberty. The world has become more economically free in the last quarter century. The average economic freedom score has increased by 20%.
In 2001 an estimated 2.7 billion people lived in moderate or extreme poverty. Now fewer than 2 billion people live in moderate or extreme poverty. The United Nations credits economic freedom for most of these gains. Yet the role of economic freedom is rarely covered in high school economics courses.
This workshop is designed to help you to incorporate economic freedom into your classes. Each participant will receive:
· A new laminated, poster-size Economic Freedom of the World Wall Map. ($30 value)
· Seven complete lessons that teach about economic freedom.

Health Care through an Economics Lens
What are the costs of healthcare, who are the beneficiaries, and who has a stake in it? Do you know that 26% of Arizonans have unpaid medical bills?
This workshop uses the basic principles of economics, such as: supply and demand, scarcity and adverse selection, to review the history of health insurance, explain our current healthcare situation, and see what may lie ahead. The workshop will empower you with more resources to educate yourself and your children to understand the important issues around healthcare and make more informed decisions.
Economist Cathleen Johnson researches and writes extensively on the theory of networks and how they interact. Her groundbreaking, public policy research measures consumer preferences, with an emphasis on attitudes about risk and time.
Workshop Date/Location:
