Back by popular demand – AZ Financial Literacy & Economic Education Conference Session
What happens when students help decide how school funds are spent? Research shows they gain a sense of responsibility, improve relationships, and develop critical skills like problem-solving and collaboration. School Participatory Budgeting (SPB) is a hands-on process that allows students to allocate part of their school or district budget, teaching them about public finances and the real-world impacts of their choices. This session, led by the Center for the Future of Arizona and ASU’s Participatory Governance Initiative, will explore how SPB can be integrated into K-12 campuses, linking lessons in financial literacy, economics, and participatory governance. Participants will learn about the SPB process, review case studies from Arizona, and explore various models of implementation. Key takeaways include understanding SPB’s impact on students and its connection to broader educational objectives.
Participants will be eligible for 1 hour of professional development credit.
Due to the interactive nature of the presentation, all participants will be required to have reliable internet access and a device with video and audio capabilities.
