SESSION 2: Reading Between the Lines: A Data Literacy Approach to Economics
Help students become confident, critical users of economic data. This session focuses on practical strategies for strengthening data literacy through real news examples, guiding students as they analyze unemployment reports, inflation trends, and other macroeconomic indicators. Participants will receive a ready-to-use media analysis worksheet and digital resources that deepen students’ ability to interpret data, think critically, and make informed economic decisions.
Participants will gain practical, data-focused strategies that make economics engaging and relevant, strengthen students’ critical thinking, and build your confidence in teaching data literacy.
All attendees will receive:
- Classroom-ready lesson plans and game materials aligned with state and national economics standards.
- Practical strategies to teach students to interpret unemployment reports, inflation data, and other key economic indicators.
- A toolkit of real news examples that can be immediately integrated into instruction to boost data literacy and engagement.
Participants will be eligible for 1 hour of professional development credit.
Due to the interactive nature of the presentation, all participants will be required to have reliable internet access and a device with video and audio capabilities.
